Women's Health Services

Women's health is a specialized area of physical therapy that addresses women's lifelong musculosketal health. Our Peak Sports and Spine Physical Therapy Seattle area locations in Bellevue and Snoqualmie Ridge have women's health programs that can assist you with the following issues:

  • Stress Incontinence - the sudden loss of urine when you exercise, cough sneeze, or move in a certain way. (for example, jumping, coughing, sneezing, or laughing). Urine leakage occurs in this case due to weak pelvic floor muscles.
  • Urge Incontinence - the leakage that occurs as soon as you get the urge to go to the bathroom. People with urge incontinence have a hard time making it to the bathroom with out leaking. They also may experience incontinence when hearing a trigger such as running water.
  • Fecal Incontinence - the involuntary leakage of feces and gas. Weak pelvic floor muscles can contribute to the body's inability to "tighten and close" the opening to the rectum. Two factors that contribute to fecal incontinence are chronic constipation, weak pelvic floor muscles and trauma to the muscles during childbirth. Fecal incontinence can range from an occasional leakage of stool while passing gas, to the inability to completely empty, to complete loss of bowel control.
  • Low Back Pain
  • Preganancy/Post Partum Pain
  • Pelvic Pain - Pelvic pain refers to any pain in the pelvic region. It is an "umbrella term" that may include conditions such as vulvodynia, vagismus, vestibulitis, and/or painful intercourse. There are also pelvic conditions that affect men and women such as coccyxdynia, pelvic muscle tension symdromes, and constipation, rectal pain, and pudendal nerve pain. Pelvic pain affects a number of men and women but is unfortunately poorly understood and rarely discussed.
